DTN COMMENTS:  Still just a few bids on the table in parts of Kansas, 
along with a few scattered bids being renewed in parts of Nebraska, this 
afternoon, but they continue to be passed. Packer inquiry should continue 
to improve, but significant trading could be delayed until sometime 
tomorrow. Asking prices are around $238 to $240 in the South, but they 
are still not fully established in the North.

Today's slaughter totaled 114,000 head, 5,000 less than last week, and 
6,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed mixed, mostly modestly 
higher, the soon to expire spot Oct issue was the only contract to end 
the day up triple digits, (up 387 to off 7). Feeder futures also ended 
the day mixed, but mostly moderately higher up (152 to off 60). Beef 
cutouts are expected to close lower with light to moderate box movement.
